Brown Fused Alumina Brown Fused Alumina (BFA) is produced in an electric arc furnace at temperatures in excess of 2000?. BFA is the result of fusing bauxite to reduce the silica levels and forming a material with a higher alumina content. BFA is used in the production of bonded abrasives (grinding wheels), coated abrasives (sandpaper and cloth), blasting grain, polishing compounds, refractories, ceramics, and other applications.
