Standard Amphibious Undercarriage- Heavy Duty
2.1 Brief Introduction
Different from the conventional undercarriage of the construction machinery, the undercarriage of an amphibious excavator or marsh buggy is built on two large steel pontoons with the tracks mounted around them. The pontoons create buoyancy, giving the machine capabilities between those of a barge and a regular excavator. The pontoons are custom fabricated for a particular machine to provide the correct displacement and balance to allow the machine to safely float and move on water or soft terrains.
SUNTON supplies full range of PU series self-propelled amphibious undercarriages that are suitable for excavators from 8tons to 47tons. The undercarriages could be designed to match to any excavator brand including Bobcat, Case, JCB, Linkbelt, Takeuchi, Hitachi, Volvo, Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hyundai, Kobelco, Samsung. Johndeer, Doosan or Daewoo etc. Payload of the undercarriage ranges from 3 metric tons to 42 metric tons, 1360 pounds to 19050 pounds. In most instances, the hydraulic system of the excavator is used to propel the amphibious undercarriage. In these instances, SUNTON supplies a mounting ring compatible with the excavator upper along with a hydraulic swivel, travel motors and brakes and final drive gear boxes.
SUNTON PU series amphibious pontoon undercarriage could also be custom built to be as the swamp undercarriage matching to many other machines' upper structures including dredging cutter pumps, dump bodies or dumpers, draglines, cranes, draglines, drill rigs, soil-boring rigs, man-lifts, fuel tanks, water tanks or pipe laying cranes, etc.

Remark: Model selection of pontoons is determined by several factors including:
a)Pontoon size is determined by the max. water depth or the balance between the max. payload of the undercarriage and the weight of the excavator upper.
b)Numbers of chain strands of track are determined by the surface of the swamp lands, soft or hard surface. 2 strand chains track is mainly applicable to machine often moving on soft terrain, while 3 or 4 strands chains mainly for hard or stiff surface.
c)Models and numbers of travel motors are determined by the condition of application. Big model motors and 4 motors are mainly applicable for dredging or moving in thick muddy areas which have much resistance.
